The Team

The Group Finance team supports and drives the financial success of Addleshaw Goddard. We strive to deliver a first class service to our stakeholders and to be a great team to work with and be part of. The Group Finance team comprises business professionals across a range of disciplines including Financial Control, Tax, Procurement, Business Partnering, Financial Planning & Analysis, Credit Control, Accounts Payable, Legal Billing and Legal Cashiering.

Purpose of the Role

The Divisional Finance Accountant (DFA) principally supports the Divisional Finance Managers (DFMs) who have overall responsibility for managing and driving the financial performance of their respective business Divisions.

The DFA will support the DFMs in providing commercial financial management to the Divisional Managing Partners (DMPs), Regional Managing Partners (RMPs), the Divisional Executive, Chief Financial Officer, Head of Finance and other stakeholders in order to meet the Divisional key objectives and plans.

Role

The following list of duties is not exhaustive but gives a flavour of the duties the Divisional Finance Accountant undertakes:

  • Support the DFMs with all aspects of Finance for the Divisions from strategic and tactical measures for sustained profit improvement through to financial control and working capital.
  • Establish key stakeholder relationships and business partnering to the DMPs, RMPs and Divisional Partners as well as building solid relationships with support teams (HR, Marketing and Finance).
  • Be able to understand discuss financial performance with Partners (and others) in a commercial and insightful manner, providing guidance and support in order to improve financial performance.
  • Undertake and own specific projects such as (but not exclusive to) client profitability reviews, pricing and tendering, finance process/controls and systems implementation.
  • Represent Finance to the business, discussing aspects of financial performance, proactively identifying and challenging issues, supporting change management and gaining commercial insight.
Financial Reporting and Management

  • Completing analytical reviews of the Divisional monthly financial performance (income and cost drivers), providing insight to the DFMs and wider business.
  • Monitoring key financial targets (e.g. billing, chargeable hours, realisation, WIP and debtor days).
  • Supporting the DFMs, Credit Control Manager and Billing Manager in driving better working capital performance within the Divisions (driving down lock-up days) by partnering the with business and resolving issues.
  • Work in conjunction with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to establish best practice and standardised reporting across all UK Divisions and International offices.
  • Ensuring operational compliance with the relevant legislation and the firm's own policies and procedures.
  • Supporting the Financial Control (FC) team to prepare relevant balance sheet reconciliations, respond to audit queries and where relevant provide input to the preparation of local (non-UK) financial statements.
Business Planning

  • Support the DFMs with the Divisional business planning process as part of the annual budget including financial modelling and written commentary.
  • Support the DFMs with the quarterly forecast, establishing a clear understanding of the business drivers that underpin the forecast.
Decision Making

  • Assist the DFMs with the review of Divisional and sub-teams' performance, and the formation of action plans.
  • Business partnering to Partners on tenders and pricing requests to maximise client profitability.
  • Assisting with the succession and promotion processes liaising with colleagues in HR
Knowledge, skills and experience required (bespoke to role) 

  • Have been a business partner within in a commercial environment.
  • Be comfortable analysing and presenting financial information.
  • Proven commercial expertise, personal gravitas and influencing skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively, build relationships and be able to influence within a complex and dynamic matrix organisation structure.
  • Solid verbal, written and presentation skills with an ability to write insightful financial and commercial commentaries based upon sound financial analysis.
  • Service oriented with experience of stakeholder management.
  • Hold a professional accountancy qualification (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent).
  • The role may require travel to our UK and International offices.
