Job Description



Based in Fairfield House in Dalkeith, just fifteen minutes south from the City of Edinburgh, we require two enthusiastic and committed Environmental Health Officers to work full time, on a permanent basis, in the areas of Food & Safety (Post DCW300) & Public Health (Post M123). 

The Midlothian Council Environmental Health Team is committed to delivering a professional service, continuous improvement and support to the local economy. You will be highly motivated and expected to make a positive contribution towards the development of the service and the health, safety and wellbeing of our population and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for a busy and varied workload across a range of Environmental Health functions dealing primarily with residents, businesses and duty holders across Midlothian. You must have a sound knowledge of environmental health legislation and be willing to engage with ongoing professional development.

The ability to work to specific deadlines and deploy excellent communication and IT skills is key. 

It is essential that you hold a degree in Environmental Health along with the post-graduate REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent.

We will consider applications from those working towards attaining their professional Diploma and in such case the starting salary will be reduced.

Membership of REHIS or equivalent is desirable.

Travel throughout the area is an essential part of your job, so a driving licence and use of a car are pre-requisite.

Responsibilities

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this PSN Disclosure check is £25 and the successful candidate will be required to re-pay to the Council the fee through payroll deduction.
