We are looking for an exceptional candidate to take over the operation of our Research Office as Head of Research Services upon the retirement of the present incumbent at the end of July. They will lead the operation of the office working closely with the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research, Associate Deans for Research, Research Impact Manager, Research Development Tutor and Graduate Development Officer.

This is a wide-ranging role which will require someone with both a grasp of the strategic aspects of research management and policy as well as an eye for detail. The post holder will be responsible both for developing and monitoring strategy within the university as well as overseeing generating and checking of research KPI data and applications for ethical approval of research prior to review by the Research Ethics sub Committee. Ensuring compliance with sector-wide concordats and other regulatory requirements is an important aspect of the role. The role will involve being the IRAS authoriser for NHS ethics applications, hence candidates will need to be able to show an understanding of the issues which should be considered when dealing with applications for ethical approval. They will act as Clerk to the Research Committee and Research Ethics sub Committee.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain relationships with external stakeholders and to provide research information to, for example, QAA, HEFCW and UKRI as required. They will also be expected to implement a current research information system, systems to monitor our increasing number of research ethics applications, and a system for research data management and open access.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
