Salary: £41,000 - £54,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
SSE Transmission is currently recruiting for an experienced HVDC Project and Operations Engineer to join our growing team. Your role will be to define HVDC engineering basis of design and scope, as well as validating and verifying HVDC engineering design, construction, installation and commissioning. The Project Engineer will deliver work in their specialist discipline to the required quality and programme, ensuring all data and specialist input is validated, and that deliverables are complete to the requirements.
What do I need?
To be considered for this opportunity, you should have strong technical knowledge and experience in core HVDC discipline, with good awareness of all technical functions in HVDC Systems and FACTS. Good knowledge of the design management process and design validation and verification process.
You will have strong technical knowledge and experience Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as well as knowledge and experience in commissioning of core HVDC discipline and in general HVDC low and high-power stage 2 testing.
You will have good communication skills to allow you to build and maintain relationships with Projects, Operations and Transmission Planning.
You will have an awareness of Procurement and Commercial (P and C), an appreciation of legal and regulatory obligations and knowledge of LCP governance and engineering processes within Transmission.
Ideally you will have a degree in an engineering discipline (preferably CEng or working towards this), thorough Technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of core HVDC and FACTS elements, and understanding of facilitating functions.
Technical knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM & ESQCR is required as well as in-depth technical knowledge of industry standards and specifications, and SHET technical specifications, and how to determine applicability of relevant standards.
You will have the skills to communicate complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management.
Candidates for this role should be diligent with the ability to determine critical technical issues and prioritise, where necessary, over less critical issues.
