Salary: £41,307 - £54,556 plus car/allowance, depending on experience

About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
You'll be responsible for running a team of Quantity surveyors and having commercial oversight for that team. Your role will be to lead the team to achieve the objectives set out by the Commercial performance manager by providing advice and guidance on business strategy for new contracts while also overseeing all large project within your team. You'll also be responsible for your own scheme, these will be of larger value and/or risk to the business.
Your role will work across all regions including strategic investment. There will be one Lead Quantity Surveyors who will lead two separate teams working within a project delivery team. You'll be expected to either support each project manager with management of commercial aspects on high value/risk projects while managing all commercial aspects including change management, contract correspondence and costs on multiple smaller projects.
You will also provide strategic commercial direction to the commercial performance manager, communicating the responsibilities and developments within the team whilst ensuring the team's activities meets the needs of their projects and respective business area. You will drive value through innovation, implementing a continuous improvement philosophy and lead, develop and grow the skills and capability of your team through rigorous implementation of performance management?
What do I need?
You'll be able to analyse and interpret numerical data and have highly developed contract drafting and writing skills, from experience gained through interpreting construction contracts. Excellent IT skills are essential including knowledge of all MS Office applications, knowledge of Emptoris and Oracle purchase systems would be beneficial.
We are looking for a candidate who has a good working knowledge of NEC conditions of contract, along with experience in estimating, cost and budget management, contract administration and payment and expenditure management.
Finally, a degree in Quantity Surveying/Engineering is required for this position, while MRICS professional qualifications are desirable.
