Are you skilled Linux Server Engineer looking to work with the latest technologies at a world leading centre of learning and research which is transforming the way ICT services are delivered to over 25,000 users?


ICT at Imperial College London has an exciting opportunity for a Linux Server Engineer, where you will join a highly technical team responsible for the build and operation of infrastructure platforms and products. You’ll create pipelines for automating tasks such as deploying and managing the infrastructure configuration and other infrastructure related tasks. You’ll get the opportunity to learn and work with a range of modern technologies including Puppet, Satellite, VMWare and Azure.

On a day to day, you will work an experienced Systems Administrator, complementing the wider team by supporting largely Linux Environments, with familiarity in VMWare, as well as automation management and continuous development, using a variety of scripting technologies.

You’ll get to work across a diverse stakeholder community, providing advice and guidance to ICT and wider College business units and when required, a consultancy service under the guidance of the team lead, creating technical documents with the ability to produce clear and concise, high- and low-level design documentation, as well as implementation and operation guides

You’ll keep up to date with industry trends and drawing upon industry wide experience, having a good understanding of recognised generic industry bodies of knowledge and specialist bodies of knowledge.

Key Requirements

  • Substantial experience as a Linux Server Engineer or equivalent role in a large enterprise environment
  • In Depth knowledge of Linux
  • Understanding of virtual and physical server infrastructure capacity, scaling and operation.
  • Use of Source Control repositories
  • Experience of Infrastructure as Code Tooling
