Technical Director - Rail

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to lead the technical development and delivery of our rail division.

We want an experienced professional who is commercially awareness, result focused and able to perform business objectives through setting of personal and team goals.

The successful candidate will ideally be Chartered, hold a relevant degree in engineering and offer strong leadership skills. You will have proven experience engaging with and developing good working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

You will need to offer strong technical experience of working in the UK rail industry and extensive experience in civil and structural engineering design.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provide the Rail delivery team with technical input, advice and support
  • Oversee each project's life cycle from conception to completion, with an emphasis on technical soundness and resource efficiency
  • Develop and revise scope of work, which should include accurate time and cost estimates
  • Analyse CDM 2015 and CSM requirements to ensure a fully integrated design solution
  • Apply sound technical judgement and value engineering to each project
  • Work collaboratively with the design team to ensure right first-time design for customer approval
  • Meet with clients to refine and evaluate requirements, scope, strategy and project outcomes
  • Ensure application of current design standards across the rail sector
  • Implement new innovative design solutions and technological systems such as 3D modelling
  • Enhance the technical competency of our engineers through structured and/or on-job training, mentoring and development programme along with new hires
What we're looking for:

  • Extensive experience working in the UK rail industry 
  • Extensive experience in engineering design
  • Providing technical expertise on highly complex Multi-disciplinary projects
  • A determination and drive to build a technically competent design team
  • Good working knowledge of Network Rail Grip process / standards and approval processes
