Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Principle Commercial Manager to join our Kent County Council Contract in Maidstone

The salary is between £70,000 - £85,000 per annum.

The Amey-Kent County Council Contract is a Highways Term Maintenance Contract. It began in 2021 and covers all operational maintenance work on the Kent Highway network, including carriageway and footway works. It also includes emergency and winter maintenance, as well as road improvement and structure enhancement projects.

As a Principal Commercial Manager, your role involves overseeing two dynamic teams. They are responsible for reactive maintenance on transportation and implementing improvement projects. Your key responsibility is managing the relationship between Kent County Council and Amey. This ensures that we meet the contract requirements and can maintain a successful partnership going forward.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week with the option to work 2 days from home per week.

You will be responsible for:

• Drive consistency in valuation and commercial processes for contracts valued between £50-60 million per annum.
• Lead or provide commercial support to ensure profitable results across a portfolio of contracts.
• Develop effective supply chain strategies in collaboration with Group Procurement for contract delivery up to
• Manage contract opportunity and risk process, including risk mitigation measures.
• Negotiate with key customer interfaces to secure favourable outcomes.
• Develop strategies to improve cash flows within the relevant business area.
• Report to the Account and functionally report to the Head of Commercial.
• Collaborate with key supply chain companies.
• Supervise and manage a team of employees, including their performance, development, and well-being.
• Set clear goals and objectives for team members and monitor their progress.
• Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
• Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical behaviour.
• Collaborate with senior management and contribute to strategic decision-making processes.

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Commercial Degree or equivalent
• Professional Qualification (MRICS or equivalent) is favourable but not essential
• Excellent commercial acumen
• Health and Safety awareness
• People management and the ability to develop and recruit staff
• Detailed understanding of the contract conditions used by the division
• Knowledge of the UK government's agenda for support services
• Experience of delivering commercial solutions on support services contracts valued up to £60 million per annum.
• Experience of managing commercial solutions
• Good negotiator who achieves their objectives
