At our recently upgraded site at King George Dock we operate the UK’s largest refinery for edible oils and fats. We supply businesses in the sectors of food manufacturing, baking, foodservice and retail, and we work closely with customers to co-develop bespoke products.

About the role

As Process Engineer you will provide and drive process engineering knowledge, support and leadership across all operational areas and capital projects. The successful candidate will improve industrial processes in order to increase efficiency, optimise cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.

The role will take ownership of process control philosophies, process specifications, process design calculations, process flows and process control systems; provide process engineering input in the design & commissioning of process improvement changes and lead certain Improvement Projects were appropriate. Working closely with the Projects Manager the role will ensure process drawings are correct; and alongside the Electrical Engineer to control and develop the PLC and SCADA systems across sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and be responsible for all process related activities within the Refinery and assist in site process activities, i.e. Energy management
• Develop, configure and optimize industrial processes from inception through to start up and full-scale production.
• To play a key role in the development of and adherence to Safe Systems of Work and Operating Instructions
• Ensure AAK complies fully with all relevant process industry standards and regulations, implementing process safety methodologies as appropriate
• Assist the Plant Manager in leading or providing process engineering support in Hazard and Operability Studies
• Take ownership of and lead the DSEAR assessment for the Refinery
• Provide and drive process engineering knowledge and leadership to drive business KPIs, providing process engineering support to the Operations team to understand and resolve process difficulties and bottlenecks
• Take ownership of and responsibility for process control philosophies, process specifications, process design calculations, process flows and process control systems
• Process Drawings – take ownership of all Process and Engineering drawing for own projects, i.e. P&ID
• Ensure all process and engineering modifications under their control fully comply the Management of Change System
• Develop best practice, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates quality of output, yields and energy efficiency.

About you

• Safety conscious and aware of environmental impacts
• Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering degree, preferably chartered
• Proven experience in process or chemical industries
• Proficient in AutoCAD, or equivalent
• Good understanding of Project Management processes
• Ability to analyse problems, assess risk profile, determine action, and develop solutions, communicating intentions and progress to all levels
• Conversant with DSEAR and other Regulations, codes and standards applicable to the design, construction and operation of process plants.
• Experience in Continuous Improvement. Modern process and manufacturing techniques, such as Lean, 5S, DMAIC, FMEA, SMED, Value Stream Mapping is advantageous
• Prepared to occasionally travel to other operational sites.
