Role Purpose

Lead the technical delivery of one or multiple work packages for Critical National Infrastructure in the Air Traffic Management domain. This encompasses a range of technologies, software applications, and hardware infrastructure used for managing and controlling air traffic, utilising advanced technologies such as virtualised platforms, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence. These systems handle tasks such as flight planning, communication, surveillance, navigation, managing Unmanned Air Systems, and weather information dissemination.

Accountabilities

In your role, you will -

  • Support the Project Manager in the overall project delivery.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to define, plan and deliver the scope of activities within one or multiple work packages of a project (in the order of £2m pa), to achieve the required outcomes.
  • Be accountable for the time, cost and quality balance of the technical deliverables of the project.
  • Drive problem solving and decision making when facing technical challenges.
  • Manage the resources for several work packages within a project.
  • Co-ordinate the technical alignment of deliverables within a project to ensure that they deliver a complete, coherent, sustainable and cost-effective solution.
  • Be the Technical Point of Contact for escalations from internal stakeholders and 3rd party suppliers.

Qualifications and Skills required

  • HNC (or equivalent RQF level 4 or SCQF level 7 qualification) Engineering or Technology discipline
  • Have experience of managing the technical delivery of projects following industry best practice techniques (preferably in a safety related sector)
  • Ability and confidence to make key decisions under challenging conditions balancing cost, quality and time
  • Ability to task manage multidisciplinary teams located across multiple sites; including integrated teams comprising permanent staff, temporary contractors and 3rd party suppliers
  • Analytical approach to problem solving issues
  • Ability to challenge peers and senior colleagues with a constructive approach
  • Ability to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders ranging from technical members of the team to senior (non technical) business stakeholder and regulatory bodies
  • Ability to translate complex engineering issues into plain English to support business decision making

Additional InformationThe candidate must be able to travel between centres (Whitely and Prestwick) regularly with overnight stay as required: approx. once or twice per month to Prestwick (if based at Whitely) or fortnightly to Whiteley (if based at Prestwick).
