About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, subsea cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Due to a period of growth, SSE Transmission is currently recruiting for experienced Project Managers to lead project teams in the refinement and execution of large capital projects across the business. The Project Manager will ensure the safe delivery to programme, cost and the necessary quality.
Key to this purpose is the leadership of project teams involving both staff and external contractors, to ensure project excellence is achieved through a competent, motivated and improvement focused team using robust systems to support the project process. You will apply and adhere to the Safety Management Systems, best practices and the SSE Large Capital Projects Governance processes for all projects. It is also important that you lead the project teams in alignment with the SSE Safety Culture and core leadership values.
What do I need?
To be considered for role of Project Manager, you will have demonstrable leadership experience with a broad understanding of project management methodology and practice. You will preferably have experience of the Transmission Business and the regulated environment that we operate in. However, we will also consider those with experience in the construction or the utilities sector on major projects who have strong engineering knowledge including the safety and CDM regulations.
Ideally, you will have knowledge of SSE's company standards, policies and procedures and other relevant statutory regulations.
You will have a proven track record of successful delivery of projects with management and reporting experience too. You will have demonstrable experience of developing and managing integrated project programmes.
It is highly desirable that you have experience of personally being responsible for the delivery of large capital projects and understand the tendering process for the purchasing and engagement of suppliers including multi-disciplinary contracts and experience of the need to accurately control cost forecasting. Previous experience of delivering Transmission substation, overhead line and/or cabling projects would be advantageous.
Degree qualified in an Engineering or related subject or a Project Management appropriate qualification is desirable but not essential.
