The starting salary for this role is £29,291 per annum for working 36 hours per week.

We are looking for a Senior Development Officer to support our Education and Lifelong Learning services to be the best that they can be and make a difference in the lives of children and young people.   

As part of the Systems and Transformation team, you will work closely with our frontline services, including services for our most vulnerable learners in Surrey. You will be a key support member of the team which helps to identify best practice and embed new ways of working to deliver better services for children and families. 

This is an exciting time in Education and Lifelong Learning. The government’s recently published SEND Green Paper and Schools White Paper bring new opportunities for local authorities to address some of the challenges facing our educational settings and our children with additional needs. 

This will be a varied role, providing support to the team to forward plan and ensuring that we are fully prepared for local, regional, and national policy and practice changes. On a day-to-day basis, you could be helping to draft a project plan, carrying out research, drafting documents or meeting with colleagues from across the Council to understand planned developments and how they could impact upon our children and families

You may be a recent graduate who is looking to take their first steps in employment or looking to take a next step up in your career. If you have good analytical, research and communication skills, we would love to hear from you. We need an open-minded individual who is prepared to try different ways of working and carry out a variety of different tasks, as no day is likely to be the same.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • Educated to A level or equivalent, or able to evidence ability at an equivalent level.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve objectives and improve customer service.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build sound relationships with customers to improve customer service.
  • High level administrative/organisational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities and work on own initiative.
  • A methodical approach to information gathering, recording and reporting.
  • Experience of maintaining and improving project plans and reports.
