Post Type: Full Time
Closing Date: Wednesday 21 April 2021

Your discipline. Your passion. Our success, together.

About You

We seek an enthusiastic, experienced academic with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our Medical School postgraduate team. You should have experience in programme leadership, development, delivery, quality assurance and enhancement of a diverse range of postgraduate programmes and modules in areas relating to clinical/medical education.

To be successful in this role, you will further enrich our student’s experience through your expertise and subject knowledge, as evidenced through your qualifications and professional experience. In return, you will join a forward thinking and dynamic team that pushes the boundaries of curriculum development within the new Medical School. As a Senior Lecturer, you will also be required to take on some leadership roles as deemed appropriate by your Head of Department.

You will have access to a range of specialist development programmes and academic development opportunities, along with an award winning and comprehensive staff health & wellbeing programme (HR Excellence Awards 2017). You will receive a full academic induction, be enrolled onto our PGC Teaching in Higher Education (as deemed appropriate), benefit from the Edge Hill University CPD scheme (UKPSF) and also have access to a wide range of support for your professional development. The School and Faculty has a vibrant range of staff research, teaching and learning seminar programmes.

Our research profile is expanding, and our staff are required to engage in this activity with mentorship support, as appropriate, from our research theme leaders.

We will consider applications from those interested in full time or part time appointments.

About the Role

This post is to support the expansion and development of Edge Hill University’s Medical School at an exciting time in its evolution. The primary focus for this post is our flagship international programmes - Master of Surgery (MCh) and Master of Medicine (MMed). This is a leadership role, requiring an experienced academic who can lead these programmes delivered in partnership with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh (WWL), NHS Foundation Trust. A medical qualification is not essential. The successful candidate will be expected to lead research modules on the programmes and a strong research profile or a developing profile is essential for this role.

These are very successful International Training Fellowship Programmes (ITFP), which recruit international doctors to work in NHS posts, providing the opportunity to study for a MCh or MMed degree, whilst here in the UK. The programme has many specialist clinical pathways (https://www.edgehill.ac.uk/courses/master-of-medicine/). The successful candidate will work closely with our partners at WWL NHS Foundation Trust. Some international travel may be required (consistent with government guidance).

The successful candidate will also work across other programmes and modules in the Medical School as required.

Providing a high-quality student experience is our primary aim, and the successful candidate must have sustained excellence in student engagement and support, with effective learning strategies that are embedded in current, evidence-based practice, supporting students to achieve their full potential and preparing them for their professional career.

Successful candidates will also be supported to maintain and/or develop a strong research profile.

Rewards/Benefits

We want you to feel happy when you come to work and proud when you go home.

From the moment you join us you have the opportunity to enhance your skills. We offer various routes for progression, a range of specialist development sessions and academic development opportunities along with an award winning and comprehensive staff health & wellbeing programme (HR Excellence Awards 2017). This means you will receive a full academic induction, be enrolled if appropriate on our PGCTHE, benefit from the Edge Hill University CPD scheme (UKPSF) and our annual University Learning and Teaching day all to support your professional development.

This is just a taste of what we are able to offer you at Edge Hill University.
