Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office as needed for your role.

The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for 2x Senior Project Managers to join the Royal Society of Chemistry.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a crucial role in driving the successful delivery of complex projects within our organisation. You will be responsible for overseeing projects of significant size, scope, and complexity, often involving multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Your expertise in project management methodologies, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement will be instrumental in achieving project objectives and contributing to the overall success of the organisation. You will report to the Project Management Team Leader and collaborate closely with senior management across the organisation to ensure alignment with directorate strategies and goals.

In this role it is expected that you will attend the office on an ad-hoc basis. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

What we are looking for:

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in successfully managing complex projects from initiation to closure.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the capacity to effectively engage and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of project budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.
  • Proficient in risk management, change management, and problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and make sound judgments.


Desirable Skills:

  • Professional certification in project management (e.g., PMP, Prince2, Agile certifications).
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools for planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in managing virtual or distributed project teams.
