Main Purpose:

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide high contractual and commercial advice and support to their respective Project Surveyor(s) and commercial team(s). The Senior Quantity Surveyor is required to adopt a hands-on approach in overseeing the commercial activities associated with the design and construction process of a multi-million-pound project and in some cases this obligation may extend to more than a single project.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Specifically, the position accepts responsibility for a single large project or multiple projects and for overseeing and delivery of the financial and commercial targets whilst ensuring at all times that best practice is employed so that:
  • Company standards (including Health and Safety issues) are followed by Project Surveyors and project commercial staff.
  • Stated project objectives are followed, including budgetary controls, the maximisation of profit and maintenance of positive cash flow.
  • Maximum value for money is achieved.
  • The Project Surveyor and commercial team properly understand the procurement process and targets in securing the services of Sub-Contractors/Suppliers/Design Consultants, including the requirement to produce formal documentation for accurate representation of the financial and contractual position of work packages.
  • The placement of robust Orders takes place before work commences in accordance with current company contractual arrangements occurs.
  • Construction Directors and Project Managers and whenever appropriate Directors of the Company are provided with reliable advice on financial, progress and contractual related matters.
  • The timely preparation and presentation of accurate internal cost and value reports occurs.
  • Timely interim applications for payment, retention and final account applications occurs.
  • Sub-Contractors and Suppliers are administered in accordance with the terms and conditions of company Sub-Contract arrangements.
  • Delays to progress are properly analysed and timely and detailed requests for extensions of time and reimbursement of loss and/or expense are recommended and submitted.
  • Close working relationships with Clients and Employer’s Agents to see that their reasonable expectations are met including the Value Engineering and cost saving exercises.
  • The Project Surveyor and commercial team receive appropriate training and mentoring where appropriate.
  • Appropriate recruitment of commercial staff takes place.
  • the work undertaken by the Project Surveyor and commercial staff is properly supervised and compliance with company practices, procedures and protocols occurs.
  • High level correspondence is co-ordinated between the Managing Surveyor and Project Quantity Surveyor and Head Office.
  • Attend high level project related meetings.
  • Ensure Partial Possession notices are issued where appropriate.
  • Ensure we obtain Section and Practical Completion certificates for the projects.
  • Attend design team meetings when possible to ensure compliance with Contract and minimise unnecessary cost.
  • Review and provide advice to the project team on the Contract and procedures to be followed.
  • Notify Managing Surveyor, Construction Director and Project Manager of any commercial disagreements with Employer and Sub-Contractors / Suppliers.
  • Where there is no Project Surveyor, undertake their role;

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Required*

BSc Quantity Surveying or equivalent

Chartered member of RICS

Building Regulations (including Part B)

CVR training

Excel- Intermediate level

4 Projects training

Desirable

Negotiation training

Presentation skills

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

Practical knowledge of ASTA Power Projects or MS Projects 2013/2016
