Job Role: Senior Thermal Engineer

Location: Wolverhampton (WV10)

Salary: Up to £50K (Dependant on experience)

Working hours: 40 Hour Week

The Role

A role has become available for a Senior Thermal Engineer to join their engineering department. Our client is developing the next generation of high performance and unique innovative heat exchangers. Significant emphasis will be placed on simulation and as such they are looking for someone with a background in MATLAB programming and CFD flow analysis. You should have industrial experience in a related field and be naturally curious and eager to solve complex engineering problems related to single and multi-phase flow and heat transfer enhancement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Extend existing analytical methods to cover all heat exchanger configurations and manufacturing technologies.

  • Develop and automate heat exchanger sizing tool using MATLAB.

  • Use of Star CCM+ CFD to simulate flow/heat transfer and perform geometry optimisation to meet set objectives.

  • Size heat exchangers by applying principles of heat transfer and fluid mechanics.

  • Perform validation tests working alongside Test Engineers.

  • Create, maintain, and distribute technical material, including but not limited to, reports, best practice guidelines, design review documents, internal training, and journal/conference papers.

  • Create patents through R&D and strengthen links with internal and external organisations and Universities.

  • Lead and manage technical engagements and collaborations.

The Candidate

  • Education - Minimum Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a numerate discipline (Maths/Physics, etc.)

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics are essential with experience in vapour cycle component analysis.

  • Experience of programming in MATLAB, Excel VBA and CFD flow and conjugate heat transfer modelling in Star CCM+ are essential.

  • Computer Literacy - Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong analytical skills, good communication (verbal/ written) with the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

  • Industry Experience - Aerospace/Automotive preferred but not compulsory

  • Other Skills - Experience using nTopology and CAD packages such as Siemens NX and/or other commercial CAD tools would be beneficial.
