Ward 16 is currently a 28 bedded urology ward who cares for patients with any urology concerns Including prostate problems, bladder problems, cancers or stones. Our aim is to care for each patient as an individual with a high standard of care ensuring the best possible patient experience. The team is a competent, compassionate and committed team which aims to help each patient lead an independent life as possible on discharge. We encourage staff development and have a wide range of educational opportunities for all staff.
The ward is fully engaged in Trust projects, for example;
Ward accreditation: this gives us an opportunity to identify and improve the service to the patient.
Surgical site infection: this involvement allows us to show the public what our post op infection rates are in comparison to other Trusts.
Ward 17 is a 28 bedded ward and ward 14 is a 19 bedded ward, accommodating trauma patients who have an array of muscular-skeletal injuries. Patients may have spinal injuries, head injuries, road traffic collision injuries and we are now proud to be part of the new pathway for all Neck of Femur fractures, county wide. This is something that has been embraced by all of the medical and nursing team which has led to significant improvements within the best practice for fractured NOF patients. Not only has our time to theatre, number of days in hospital and even mortality rates improved but the division has now been declared as ‘good’ for being ‘well-lead’ following a recent CQC inspection which is vast improvement of ‘inadequate’ back in 2017.
Ward 18 is currently a 28 bedded ‘ultra clean’ ward which cares for vulnerable patients who require surgery and have been shielding at home for 2 weeks prior to their admission. This ward caters for all surgical patients; including urology, breast, and trauma and orthopaedic.
We provide an excellent opportunity to widen skills in a specialist area with on-going education and training for all HCA’s & registered nurses.
The wards provide an excellent teaching environment for students leading to lots of very positive feedback. Our team welcomes the opportunity to induct new staff.
New members of staff on the ward will receive ongoing training and support relevant to job roles, some of which includes:
Induction with a supernumerary period
An assigned mentor
Venepuncture and cannulation
Use of Medical Devices
Being a student assessor by attending the mentorship course
