Main purpose of role
The Technical Architect role sits within the Digital Applications Team overseeing and developing the technical implementation of a range of solutions covering web, mobile and cloud services. The role will involve spending a significant proportion of time developing solutions including writing and testing code.
As part of a specialist team the role will involve providing highly specialist advice on system architecture, integration and implementation of applications developed by the Digital Apps service line.
As a senior lead within the team the candidate will provide leadership, training, support and generate enthusiasm in all team members to ensure that they are empowered to carry out the responsibilities of their role.
The role will involve collaborating with partners and customers bringing a reliable, efficient and high quality service utilising leading edge technology to provide systems locally and nationally.
Candidates will possess excellent communication skills, have experience in service improvement and knowledge of Cloud platforms and Software as a Service (SaaS). The candidate will also be accustomed to working within a complex, fast paced environment where technology plays a key role in the organisation.
Key responsibilities include
Develop and oversee products from inception to delivery
Provide Senior Developer duties within projects from design, development through to testing and delivery.
Maintain control of the technologies used within development process, and ensuring all systems are secure by design
Engage with customers, suppliers and users across NECS
Manage and support a team of multi-disciplined individuals
Monitor the team’s activities and provide reports to the senior management team
This is a complex and demanding role that requires an eye for detail, resilience and innovative thinking that if successfully delivered will be highly rewarding.
Required abilities and experience
Experience in design and modelling of complex applications
Skilled in C#, .Net, SQL or other database technologies
Knowledgeable of security risks that could affect applications and how to mitigate them
Practical experience with developing and implementing coding standards, test plans and development and release pipelines
Experience in leading a technical delivery team in a client-facing service provider
Knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery process
Ability to support and educate technical and non-technical staff about the benefits and limitations of technologies
Proficient in English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable but not essential
Experience in designing, developing and deploying to Cloud Services as Azure, AWS or Google Computes in the form of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS)
Cross Platform Mobile Development platforms and their limitations on functionality and performance
Microsoft Certified Specialist.
