It’s an exciting time to join Aston University for an individual who is passionate about data and analytics and keen to develop our capabilities in this area. We have started a digital transformation journey with the vision to become a data-centric University using data and insight to inform better decision making to achieve our strategic outcomes outlined in the Aston Strategy 2018 to 2023.

We are looking for an experienced BI Developer to join us at the beginning of an exciting data transformation journey. Within the Student and Academic Services directorate, this role is part of the Planning and Student Management Information team. The BI Developer will be an expert in Power BI, and will be responsible for mentoring stakeholders of all levels across the University in the rollout of this tool. The BI Developer will also be a visualisation and reporting expert who will be central to the development of reporting and analysis.
As well as being the subject matter expert for Power BI, the successful BI Developer will have a collaborative approach to working with stakeholders of all levels, creating solutions which really address user needs.

Here are some of the key responsibilities of the BI Developer role:

To provide insight and advice to internal and external stakeholders within the three colleges, senior leadership teams, regulators and external beneficiaries.

Identify, define, develop and deliver University Intelligence solutions

Deliver meaningful insights to the university with well thought through, actionable, clearly articulated analysis

Helping to create a single, robust and trusted reporting service for the organisation (data warehouse).

Proactively identify opportunities to translate and migrate existing BI/MI/analysis into the central reporting service

Here is some of the knowledge skills and experience required to be successful in the BI Developer role:

Excellent communication and influencing skills with experience in data storytelling

Awareness of reporting best practices and new/evolving analysis tools

Advanced user of data records systems and strong working knowledge of SAP University Objects

Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, build relationships and prioritise projects

Ability to positively challenge stakeholders to ensure data capabilities facilitate the university outcomes

Strong Analytical skills with a keen eye for detail

Knowledge of data ops methodology is advantageous

Ability to work independently and cross-functionally within a team to tight timescales

Please note that the BI Developer role will be initially working from home, but once it safe to do so, the role will be a mixture of working from home and our offices in Aston, Birmingham.
