Scottish Government and Social Security Scotland are seeking applications for an experienced Cloud Architect, as part of a major flagship government programme.

This is a unique opportunity to define the cloud infrastructure for a greenfield programme and the first new public service in Scotland for over fifty years. As an expert in your profession and as domain lead, your skills and decision making will impact the wellbeing of millions throughout Scotland, as you design innovative and cutting-edge infrastructure. Your skills and experience will guide a broad cross-section digital professionals and experts, bringing thought leadership to infrastructure decision making as part of a high performing team of over 200.

Social Security Scotland will be the largest, most complex IT Programme of change since devolution with a lifetime budget of over £300m, delivering a social security system to support the people of Scotland for decades to come. The Chief Digital Office is currently part of the Scottish Government Social Security Directorate. From 1 April 2021 we will become part of Social Security Scotland, an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government.

As the new Scottish Social Security Agency rises out of Scottish Government, the team will be split between Dundee & Glasgow, but provide innovative digital services across Scotland, supporting and advising over 1.5 million citizens. Whilst working remotely initially, longer term you will benefit from flexible working and brand-new offices with state of the art technology.

This role presents a unique opportunity and an almost blank canvas and play a pivotal role in investing in and designing market-leading solutions. Demonstrating world class innovation and implementing your designs across this project, you will utilise leading edge tools along the way both to create new platforms and ensure continuous enhancements of a Scotland and UK first.

As the successful candidate you will:
• Influence cloud decisions, strategies, and solutions across the organisation, guiding a broad range of stakeholders, from technical delivery to senior leadership.
• As domain-lead, design effective cloud first solutions and networks that support cutting-edge service design.
• Demonstrate your ability to influence and work collaboratively across a broad matrix of specialists and experts.
• Articulately present designs and solutions at the highest level and in a compelling manner.
• Work closely with security colleagues to define highly available, resilient, scalable and fault tolerant end-to-end solution architecture.
• Work with a diverse supplier landscape to select and maximise the value of cutting-edge technology, as well as the latest policies and principles.
• Network and collaborate externally with likeminded professionals as a representative of the organisation.
• Utilise public cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure to hosts and enable line of business applications and services
• Manage a digital workplace by leveraging a range of technologies such as Microsoft 365, Intune, Teams and Azure AD
• Leverage a range of cloud engineering tools to automate the build of infrastructure, applications and services such as HashiCorp Packer to produce and manage images, HashiCorp Terraform for Infrastructure as code, GIT to store and mange code in a repository and orchestration through Jenkins

Essential criteria:
1. An accomplished cloud infrastructure architecture professional; cloud architect certification preferred or demonstrable equivalent experience of designing large, robust, and complex architecture.
2. A deep understanding of cloud platform services (ideally AWS) including identity security, high-availability and cloud networking.
3. Knowledge of modern and relevant cloud security and automation tools within cloud infrastructure.
4. Experience working under security-related frameworks and best practice. Demonstrable design knowledge should include (but not limited to) cloud enabled security capabilities in some of the following areas: Identity and Access, Privileged Access Management, CI/CD Pipeline Security, Security Monitoring, Audit and Response, DevOps Orchestration Security Controls.

Our reward scheme includes:
• Salary between £64,507-£73,935 and DDaT allowance of £4k after 9 months
• Contributory Pension Scheme (employee contributions 7.35%, employer contributions 27.9%)
• 36.5 days annual leave (including public and privilege holidays) (increasing to 41.5 after 4 years)
• Weekly Hours: 37.5hrs
