The Head of RKE is a key role providing both strategic and operational leadership for research and knowledge exchange support in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Working closely with the Faculty Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange and the Faculty Operations Director, the role holder will lead on the development and implementation of the Faculty’s research strategy and on the enhancement of the Faculty’s research environment and culture.

 The Head of RKE will lead the faculty research support team and partner with a distributed team of professional services staff, based in and managed by Schools. They will champion and support activity ensuring the continuing success and future development of the Faculty’s research and knowledge exchange activities. In particular, the role holder will bring about innovation and improvements in interdisciplinary and collaborative practices and the provision of expert advice and guidance on a wide range of research funding and engagement opportunities. The role holder will also play a proactive role in developing the Faculty’s interdisciplinary networks, research centres and institutes and capability to operate at a level of international excellence.

 Although based in the Faculty Hub in the Medical School Building, the Head of RKE is expected to work in partnership with a range of senior colleagues across the Faculty, including School Directors of Research, Heads of Operations, and colleagues across the University including Heads of RKE in other Faculties and senior colleagues in Research & Innovation, and external partners and bodies, e.g. NHS, healthcare-related industry, veterinary sector, senior colleagues at collaboration partner universities and at funding bodies.

 As the largest Faculty in a world-leading research intensive University, we are looking for an experienced and highly motivated research professional, with excellent leadership and management skills, a track-record in research operations/development and with the desire to make a difference. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and varied environment, blend strategic thinking with operational delivery, and possess high-level interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

 This is a full time, permanent position. Applications are welcome form part time working, minimum 29h per week. Job share arrangements may be considered.
