The School of Psychology and Computer Science at the University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a new lecturer in Computer Science (Software Engineering) at our Preston Campus. This is an opportunity to join an expanding team of enthusiastic research-focused academics in the heart of Lancashire, a location with excellent transport links to major UK cities including Manchester and London.

Within the area of Computer Science UCLan offers PhD and MRes research degrees, MSc courses in IT Security, Computing, and UX, and Undergraduate courses in Forensic Computing, Networks, CyberSecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Games Development. A level six Software Engineering apprenticeship is also delivered from the Preston Campus.

Research in Computer Science is arranged within the UCLan Centre for Digital Life which has the broad remit to design, create and use digital technologies to benefit human activity. This Centre houses HCI/UX research with specialism from the internationally known Child Computer Interaction group (ChiCI), Security and Forensics Research (SaFeR group) to which we are presently appointing a new Professor, and our Industry sponsored Software Engineering Methods (Agile) research.

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic individual who has relevant research expertise in Software Engineering and can deliver technical modules in the area at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, successful applicants will be expected to supervise student projects, participate in the activities of the Centre for Digital Life and work with one or more of the research groups. Most importantly, we are looking for team players who are adaptable and passionate. As an institute committed to providing opportunities from under-represented groups, we welcome applications from BAME groups and from individuals interested in flexible or shared working.

The successful candidate will have a Good Honours degree and PhD in Computer Science or Software Engineering, experience of teaching Software Engineering in a higher education environment, and excellent presentation and communication skills. A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in a relevant area of Software Engineering aligned to the priorities of the School along with a commitment to real-world research impact and innovation are essential for the role.

Applications should be made using the standard UCLan application form but should be accompanied by a CV that details your experience of teaching (include courses / modules taught and indicate your contribution), your research experience (include recent publications and grants applied for / gained) and any relevant industrial experience. CVs should be emailed to HResources@uclan.ac.uk. For an informal chat about research in computing contact Prof Janet Read jcread@uclan.ac.uk, all other general enquiries pertaining to the job should be directed through the Head of School, Dr Jamie Taylor JATaylor2@uclan.ac.uk.

Please apply online via www.uclan.ac.uk/jobs; if you cannot apply online please contact Human Resources on 01772 892324 and quoting the reference number. CVs will not be considered unless accompanied by a completed application form.
