An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our emerging and dynamic team here at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The team cares for approximately 80 children and young people aged 0-19 years, with the team consisting of Nursing and a full time advanced dietician. This role is for a permanent contract covering the week and requires the successful applicant to be flexible to respond to the demands of the service.
The role will involve providing expert advice to children and young people with diabetes and their families in both the community and hospital setting. The Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse will act as a professional resource for the multi-professional team. Experience of working with children and young people with diabetes would be advantageous, along with a teaching qualification.
The successful applicant will be able to develop their existing knowledge and skills in supporting children, young people and families with managing diabetes by delivering a structured education programme for patients and school education for school staff. There will be a requirement for ward staff education, including delivering a mandatory training programme and supporting ward link nurses. The post will involve home visits and school visits so the ability to travel will be essential.
The role involves providing advice and support during childhood and throughout the progression into our adolescent clinic for children and young people with diabetes and therefore must enjoy working with children and young people of all ages. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate leadership qualities, excellent communication skills and be highly motivated to work with the team to continue to develop and enhance our service.
