Western Power Distribution hosts an impressive IT department where an opportunity has arisen for a Programmer Analysts to join the IT Application Development Team in Plymouth.

This vacancy exists within the sub teams that specialise in creating, maintaining & supporting a wide variety of real-time, mission critical customer service and electricity distribution based systems, the majority of which are developed in-house. 

The team achieve this by using a number of database, web and telephony based application development tools to enhance and support systems predominantly hosted on Windows & UNIX servers and ORACLE databases. 

Job Description

Our IT team are vital to our business in many ways. 

Not only do they support their colleagues across the business by supporting and enabling everything from desktop computers and networking to managing infrastructure, they also take care of cyber security and develop applications. 

How they do all that is just as important: our IT teams provide services that are bespoke, cost-effective, secure and reliable. They also look ahead to see how IT can help the business to implement strategy and be an enabler for both efficiency and success. 

The IT team offers a wide variety of roles and opportunities to work at the forefront of technology using the very latest toolsets. In return, their development is supported and they’re encouraged and enabled to maintain their evolving knowledge in line with innovation. 

Main Responsibilities

Experience in the development of systems using SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle Application Express, HTML, CSS, JavaScript or an awareness of similar application development tools and languages is highly desirable. Some of your key areas of focus will include:

· Systems analysis, design and preparing program specifications and documentation.

· Secure software development, testing and implementation.

· Software maintenance and support in a secure environment

The Ideal Candidate

Highly self-motivated, with the desire and ability to build and support application development projects through to a successful completion.

Able to demonstrate that you have the necessary programming experience, aptitude, motivation and skills to make a success of one of this opportunity.

Possess minimum of 2 'A’ levels or equivalent practical experience.

Training will be given on the specific languages and environments used within Western Power Distribution.

Once you are suitably qualified, you will participate in an out of hours standby working arrangement within the team. (Therefore a driving licence is required).

Successful applicants will be subject to a security vetting process.
