The role

The Thales-Bristol Partnership in Hybrid Autonomous Systems Engineering (T-B PHASE, see https://www.bristol.ac.uk/engineering/research/t-bphase/) is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral Research Associate for up to two years (until 31/3/2023).
Our multi-disciplinary project seeks to develop new methods and technologies to help understand and overcome barriers to deploying smart, autonomous technologies in settings that involve close inter-operation with people.

What will you be doing

The successful candidate will be given a large degree of independence and encouraged to develop their own self-driven research programmes within this brief. Active engagement and collaboration with both the existing research team and with industrial stakeholders will also be essential in the delivery of this role.
Broad subject areas of interest to us include:
Mathematical modelling and simulation
Complexity science
Artificial intelligence
Systems engineering and architecting
Human factors psychology
You are strongly encouraged to contact us ahead of the closing date in order to help develop your application. In particular, your application should include a research statement which explains how you would intend to focus your research if selected – and we encourage you to discuss this statement with the project team.

You should apply if

You have a PhD (or are working towards) or equivalent level qualification, in a relevant area of Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Human Factors or other related discipline.
You have a broad interest and awareness of the emerging field of autonomous systems.
You have an active interest in working with industry partners to define and identify characteristics and challenges of autonomous systems.
You have the ability to use initiative and creativity to solve new problems that are encountered in the research context.
