Job Description

You are a qualified Social Worker who is registered with the SSSC and must be familiar with the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007, Looked After Children (Scotland) Regulations 2009, GIRFEC Principles and a working knowledge of child development and the impact of deprivation, trauma and neglect on children. You have the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, service users and external agencies and also are aware of issues for substitute families. This post is based in Aberdeenshire’s dispersed Adoption Team who provide a service across the entire Aberdeenshire area. You will have the ability to travel throughout the area.

Key tasks include the recruitment, assessment, training and support of prospective adoptive families and the identification of family based options for children requiring adoption. Assisting in the development and delivery of a robust post adoption support services and assessing need for such adoption support services.

The post will be Full time, flexible working. Adoption, Fostering, alternative care work experience desirable.

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

It is Aberdeenshire Council’s procedure that applicants for vacancies of this nature require to attend an Assessment Centre as well as interview.
Please note, Assessment Centres and interviews may be carried out on different dates which will be confirmed in due course.
