We know it takes a very special person to care for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. This is reflected in the in the specialist units across the country that cares for patients aged 16yrs-24yrs, in dedicated TYA Centres. We’re looking for a Band 6, Adult or Paediatric Staff Nurse, who understands the unique needs of this patient group and the age appropriate care needed when caring for them.
The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit (TCTU) is a 9 bedded ward, set within the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. We are one of the largest Children’s Cancer Centres in Europe, offering comprehensive and cutting-edge treatment. The Royal Marsden has one of the largest UK Bone Marrow Transplant Units, the largest Paediatric Inpatient Drug Development Programme in the UK and is recognised as a world leader in the field. On the TCTU, we care for a wide range of Haematology and Oncology Cancers, including Bone Marrow Transplants.
The Oak Centre has been designed around the needs of our patients and their families. We work closely with our colleagues in the multidisciplinary team and together our objective is to ensure that Children and Young People receive the highest quality of care.
Working at the Royal Marsden will provide you with many opportunities, both academic and clinical. All nurses have access to our leading education specialists at the Royal Marsden School who offer a wide range of degree and master modules. We also have links with London South Bank, Birmingham and Coventry University to ensure Paediatric and TYA modules are available. The Royal Marsden School also provide a wide range of study days, such as pain and palliative care. You will benefit from our in-house practice education team who have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and who will support you gaining the confidence, skills and knowledge needed in Cancer Nursing through programmes such as ; ‘Nurses New to Cancer Care’, ‘Cytotoxic Administration’ and ‘Foundation Oncology Skills’. On the TCTU we are supported by both the Adult and Paediatric practice education team.
