The Day Job:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Category Manager for the Digital & IT category with exceptional relationship management, influencing, negotiation and communication skills for this permanent role. You will provide and manage a professional procurement service to NHS SBS clients, ensuring provision of a service that is sensitive, responsive and flexible to the changing needs of the users, balanced against cost effectiveness. We are looking for a strategic thinker who can translate strategy into implementation, Innovative alongside the with the ability to inspire and lead the implementation of change.
The Digital & IT category portfolio comprises ten technology framework agreements with a public sector spend of hundreds of millions of pounds annually. You will work with some of the most well-known global Digital & IT suppliers and national NHS bodies to obtain best possible conditions for NHS SBS and deliver procurement solutions that exceed customer and partner stakeholder expectations and delivery obligations, within timescales, costs, resource utilisation and service levels. This will be achieved through effective deployment of resources and the provision of market and technical expertise in support of one or more Strategic Sourcing business process/services including: end to end category management, sourcing projects and supplier management.
NHS SBS provides a fully outsourced, end-to-end, operational and strategic procurement service to our clients from within the NHS and wider public sector bodies. This is an exciting opportunity for you to represent NHS SBS as a progressive, proactive and responsive manager, generating innovative procurement solutions. You will take key leadership responsibility in the relevant category delivering the solutions for our organisation and our clients and based at NHS SBS Procurement Centre of Excellence in Salford.
As a leader within the function, you will…
Lead a team of Category Managers for Digital & IT Team, mentor, support and manage a small team of buying staff of different levels
Oversee and develop a portfolio of projects, including OJEU compliant Framework Agreements
Develop and implement short and long term category strategy, contribute to and manage the achievement of a category work plan
Work closely with key stakeholders to influence procurement choice, aiming to drive costs down and quality and service up
Offer Procurement support to the customer Service Directorates, Heads of Procurement and Chief Information Officers and Digital Leaders for our Approved Organisations on a national footprint
Negotiate the relevant framework agreements with the supplier base ensuring that all aspects are covered within the category from a product, service and stakeholder basis
Ensure uptake of the framework agreements across the wider public sector and work alongside other key service lines such as Innovation, Implementation,
Provide a strong and effective professional management focus leading to the achievement of locally agreed targets, efficiencies and added value initiatives
Membership of CIPS or alternative Technology institution with comparable qualification
Significant public sector procurement experience within Digital & IT with a working knowledge of EU procurement rules and legislation.
An in depth understanding of Digital & IT solutions within the Healthcare industry and the wider public sector, including future changes within this market place.
Demonstrable experience of selling framework solutions into healthcare and wider public sector organisations with a strong focus on revenue generation.
Strong senior stakeholder and customer engagement/relationship building experience is a must in this role.
Commercially astute in relation to organisational growth targets regarding uptake of our framework agreements
Full driving license and open to travel to various client sites in the country and to the office in Salford
It would be great if you had:
Have chartered membership of a recognised body i.e. IET, BCS and have complementary Project and IT Service Delivery qualifications PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), ITILv4 Practitioner etc.
Experience and knowledge of working with the NHS
Understanding and experience of e-sourcing and e-procurement solutions
